Mnemba Atoll: Snorkeling & Dolphin Heaven

Discover the protected marine life and coral gardens of the Mnemba Atoll, Zanzibar’s premier underwater paradise.

Zanzibar's Top Marine Reserve

The **Mnemba Atoll** is a private marine conservation area just off the northeastern coast of Zanzibar near Matemwe. Renowned globally for its extraordinary water clarity and biodiversity, it is considered the island's best location for snorkeling and diving. Our full-day trip combines two magical experiences: swimming with dolphins and exploring the vibrant reefs.

We depart early to search for the playful **Indo-Pacific bottlenose and humpback dolphins** that frequent the calm waters. Our expert guides ensure a respectful and minimal-impact viewing experience. After the dolphins, we head to the Mnemba Atoll coral gardens, a protected area teeming with life—from angelfish and Moorish idols to sea turtles and occasional whale sharks (seasonal).

All necessary equipment (snorkel, mask, fins) is provided, and the tour includes fresh fruit, water, and often a delicious Swahili lunch on the beach. This trip is an absolute must for marine enthusiasts and anyone seeking crystal-clear waters.

Marine Safari FAQs

While we approach dolphins respectfully, we aim for viewing them in their wild habitat. If conditions are right and the dolphins are receptive, a short, supervised swim near them may be possible, but it is never guaranteed or forced.

The water temperature around Mnemba is generally warm, ranging from 25°C to 29°C (77°F to 84°F) year-round, making snorkeling extremely comfortable.

Mnemba Island itself is privately owned and not accessible to day visitors. The snorkeling and dolphin viewing takes place in the public waters of the surrounding protected Atoll.

Sunscreen (reef-safe recommended), a hat, sunglasses, a towel, a waterproof camera, and a small amount of cash for tips or personal purchases.
