Mikumi National Park

Southern Tanzania’s Most Accessible Safari Destination – Perfect for Weekend Getaways.

Discover Mikumi Safari Adventures

Mikumi National Park is the fourth largest park in Tanzania and a favorite for travelers seeking a quick and affordable safari from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. The park is part of the greater Selous ecosystem, offering an excellent chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, lions, and more within a short drive.

Thanks to its proximity to Dar es Salaam (about 4-5 hours by road), Mikumi is the perfect weekend safari getaway. Game drives here offer stunning views of the Mkata floodplain, often compared to the Serengeti due to its wide open landscapes and abundant wildlife.

Mikumi National Park FAQs

The dry season (June–October) offers the best game viewing as animals gather near permanent water sources. The green season (November–April) brings dramatic landscapes and excellent birdlife.

Mikumi is roughly a 4–5 hour drive from Dar es Salaam, depending on traffic and road conditions. This makes it a convenient option for short safaris.

Day trips are possible but we recommend staying overnight to catch early morning and late afternoon game drives when wildlife is most active.
