The guided portion inside the park typically lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours. Including transfers, it is usually considered a half-day excursion, especially if departing from Stone Town.
The monkeys are active and visible throughout the day, as they are habituated to human presence and spend a lot of time near the paths. Mornings are often cooler and quieter, which is ideal.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended, as the forest paths and boardwalk can be uneven. Light, breathable clothing and insect repellent are also advisable.
The Mangrove Boardwalk is always accessible, but the scenery changes dramatically with the tide. High tide offers views of the forest floor flooded with water, while low tide exposes the tidal mudflats and countless mudskippers and crabs.
The Red Colobus are exceptionally gentle and pose no danger. They are leaf-eaters, not aggressive. However, feeding them is strictly prohibited, and visitors must maintain a respectful distance.
